East East Beyond Borders
East East Beyond Borders is an international program by the Open Society Foundations. It promotes mutual cooperation, the sharing of experiences, and constructive dialog among the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and central Asia. The program gives priority to projects that address shared or similar problems in post-communist countries, that contribute to positive change, and that influence the quality of life in these countries.
Support is provided to projects from various areas: strengthening the rule of law, fighting corruption, promoting equal opportunities, social issues, migration and asylum policy, promoting the rights of disadvantaged groups, and (most recently) European integration and the sharing of experience with the implementation of key reforms. Project partners include non-governmental and non-profit organizations, academic institutions, and other entities.
The East East Beyond Borders Program has been active for 20 years in 28 countries where the Open Society Foundations or partner institutions are active. In the past ten years, the program has supported more than 3,000 international projects. In the Czech Republic alone, this number is roughly 20 to 40 projects a year. Over the course of its existence, East East Beyond Borders Program has helped hundreds of Czech professionals participate in projects organized by countries in Central and Eastern Europe and central Asia and has also brought hundreds of experts from those countries to the Czech Republic.
