Corruption and fighting corruption is still one of the most essential issues facing Czech society, affecting the efficiency of the rule of law and the very essence of democracy. This is one of the reasons why the Open Society Fund Prague has been engaged in this issue for years, financially assisting anti-corruption initiatives. The Foundation has been engaged in fighting corruption since 1998, providing support to projects designed to:
- identify corruption and conflict of interest in public administration,
- draft legislation measures towards abolition of corruption opportunities, promote such measures and monitor their efficient implementation,
- introduce mechanisms towards abolition of corruption, especially measures of public supervision over the use of public sources and over public tenders,
- ensure transparency of public budgets,
- monitor distribution of state subsidies,
- ensure enforceability of personal responsibility in civil service and politicians,
- ensure media coverage of corruption and promote justice.
