Human Rights and Non-discrimination

Human Rights issues are identical with democracy issues.

Human Rights

Ensuring and strictly implementing the principles of human rights is a central role of a mature democratic society. Ever since it started working in the Czech Republic, the Open Society Fund Prague has been engaged in human rights by supporting various programs designed to abolish discrimination and to promote equal opportunities.

The programs include:

  • Coexistence of the Majority Society and Minorities , promoting Roma integration
  • Migration, improving the position of immigrants in the Czech Republic
  • Society of Men and Women from the Perspective of Gender, promoting equality between genders

When implementing programs, the OSF Prague follows these methods:

  • constantly monitoring the state of things: directions of public policies, legislative amendments, the attitudes that the general public and the media adopt to the issues in question; analysing the ways such attitudes may affect human rights,
  • proposing methods and principles designed to improve things and to ensure more consistent implementation and protection of human rights,
  • seeking strategic partners for implementing particular projects to ensure practical verification of methods proposed,
  • providing partner organizations with subsidies for project implementation,
  • continually consulting partner organizations about the progress of work,
  • assisting partner organizations to present the results of projects and to seek support from authorities responsible,
  • evaluating the results of projects,
  • monitoring the administration of funds.
