Hyundai Foundation Fund

The Foundation Fund primarily seeks to develop civil society and strengthen its participation in public life. In order to fulfil these visions, the Foundation Fund supports community projects carried out especially in the districts of Frýdek-Místek and Nový Jičín in the north-east of the country, which promote the protection and improvement of the environment, or the transparency of government, or people's access to decision-making. Yet the Foundation Fund doesn't want to and cannot ignore education and the protection of human rights, issues of top importance for all democratic open societies, the development of which the Fund seeks to promote.

The Open Society Fund Prague is the administrator of all the stages involved in the grant competition of the Hyundai Foundation Fund; this way, the OSF provides the HFF with a precious know-how in grant management. The OSF possesses a sophisticated system of grant supervision, covering the entire grant cycle from applications to final evaluation of the winning project. The Open Society Fund Prague is happy to apply its expertise to the process of introducing companies' social responsibility into practice through an independent, transparent initiative, the Hyundai Foundation Fund.

Declaration of Understanding


The establishment and philosophy of the Foundation Fund rest on the Declaration of Understanding, an agreement witnessing the beginnings of this Foundation Fund, made between managers from the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech (HMMC), officials from the Moravian-Silesian Region, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the CzechInvest Agency, and four civil associations, the Ecological Law Service, Půda pro ľivot (Ground for Life), Děti Země (Children of the Earth), and Beskydčan. The Declaration seeks to abolish, mitigate, and compensate for potential negative impacts after the car manufacturer Hyundai settled in the region, and further to facilitate Hyundai's presence through civil dialogue.
