It’s Time for Europe: Engaging NGOs working with Roma

The project was implemented by Czech non-governmental organization Slovo 21 and Council of Roma B&H / Roma Informative Center based in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The project aimed at building the capacities of and empowering the non-governmental organizations in Bosnia and Herzegovina whose activities are focused on the work with Roma community in the country.

A conference entitled “I have Right on Human Rights” was held in Sarajevo in April 2010 as a part of the project. The conference was attended by members of NGOs and representatives of the international institutions, ministries of B&H and embassies based in B&H. Czech experience as well as various international efforts in Roma integration were discussed.

In June 2010, the partners organized a seminar entitled “Capacity Building and Empowerment of the Position of B&H Roma NGOs” in Jahorina. During the seminar, the Czech representatives shared their experience with project management and implementation of Roma focused projects with their B&H counterparts.

Study visit of 14 representatives of B&H non-governmental organizations to the Czech Republic in October 2010 was the last part of the project. During the visit, they saw the daily work of Czech organizations and learned about concrete projects to improve the situation of the Roma community on the spot.
